As a teenager, I struggled with emotional regulation and anxiety. I always felt like I was different but was never able to understand the source of my challenges. Through attending therapy as an adult, I was able to develop personal insight and coping skills that assisted me in creating inner peace and balance within my life. Looking back on my experiences, I wished that I had a therapist in my teens to help me navigate everyday complexities and challenges such as family conflicts, stress, building self-esteem, self-harm reduction, self-exploration, and bullying. Now as a qualifying psychotherapist, I am able to be the helper that I wish I had when I was younger. In addition, growing up with a brother with a developmental disability provided me with foundational knowledge and understanding of diverse needs and caregiver burnout. I use this knowledge in my work assisting families and finding practical solutions.
I work with children, youth and adults for a variety of challenges such as ADHD, behavioral issues, mood regulation, trauma, anxiety, depression, and peer related issues. In addition, I work with caregivers and parents to assist them in managing burnout and seeking meaningful solutions. In my work, you can expect a warm empathic approach and to develop new coping skills as we explore the source of your hardships. I incorporate an integrative lens in order to specialize therapeutic treatment to the needs of each individual. Some of the modalities that work within include Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Play Centered Therapy, Art Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy.
Currently, I am a Qualifying Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario. Prior to completing a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I completed an undergraduate degree in Gerontology at Laurentian University. In addition, I have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Recreational Therapy at Canadore College. My education has been enhanced through my professional experiences. I have had the privilege to work as the Behavioral Manager and Youth Program Coordinator for a number of group homes and day programs focusing on trauma recovery and mental health disorders. This role gave me a unique perspective on treatment for youth with complex trauma, and assisting families in developing strong bonds with each other.
