    Sex Therapy

In our current society, sex and sexuality are everywhere—from toxic relationship dynamics in Netflix dramas to tabloids splashed with celebrity cheating scandals. We’re constantly exposed to unrealistic expectations about sexual relationships in movies, advertising, and social media. We also witness important and ongoing conversations about bodily autonomy, gender identity, and sexual rights in politics and the justice system. It can all feel overwhelming, confusing, and even isolating.

While some people feel comfortable turning to friends to talk about sex, insecurities, or questions around intimacy, others may not have a safe or supportive place to explore these topics. For many, there is still shame, stigma, or fear of judgment when it comes to discussing sex, sexuality, or gender identity. So, where do we go from here?

If you’re feeling unsure, curious, or stuck, reaching out to a trained therapist can be a helpful and affirming step forward. We invite you to book a free 15-minute consultation with our Grounded Psychology therapist, MaKayla Chartrand, to see if we’re the right fit for you.

Sex therapy involves working with a licensed professional who is trained in both human sexuality and emotional well-being. A sex therapist helps clients explore the mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual aspects of sex and intimacy. Using psychotherapy (talk therapy), MaKayla can support you in addressing sexual concerns, understanding your sexual identity or orientation, setting healthy boundaries, developing better communication with partners, and healing from past sexual trauma. Therapy is offered to both individuals and couples—including those in non-monogamous or queer relationships.

MaKayla is a trained sex therapist with coursework completed through the Institute for Relational Intimacy. She helps clients create a roadmap for understanding and confidently discussing sex, no matter what issues are presenting. MaKayla identifies as a cisgender, queer woman, and works with both adults and youth ages 15+. She is currently accepting new clients for virtual and in-person sessions.
