    SPACE Program

SPACE Program – Individual & Family Support

The SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) Program is an evidence-based program designed to support parents and caregivers of children experiencing anxiety and related emotional challenges. Rather than focusing solely on the child’s anxiety, SPACE helps parents understand how their responses to anxiety can unintentionally maintain it, and provides practical strategies for responding in ways that promote confidence, independence, and long-term emotional growth.

At Grounded Psychology, the SPACE Program is offered in an individualized format tailored to your family’s unique needs. Sessions provide a supportive and collaborative environment where parents can learn how to recognize patterns of accommodation, reduce behaviours that may be reinforcing anxiety, and develop new ways of responding to their child’s fears and worries. Parents receive guidance, practical tools, and opportunities to discuss real-life situations as they arise.

Your child does not need to attend sessions. The program focuses on empowering parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need to support their child’s emotional development. By gradually reducing accommodations while increasing supportive responses, parents can help their children build greater confidence, independence, and ability to cope with anxiety over time.

Individual sessions also allow for flexible scheduling and personalized support, making it possible to adapt the program to your family’s circumstances and priorities. Whether your child is struggling with separation anxiety, excessive worry, avoidance, or other anxiety-related concerns, SPACE can help you feel more confident in knowing how to respond.

SPACE is not about forcing children to face their fears or removing support. It is about helping parents respond differently so that children have the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to manage anxiety themselves.
