I have always been a caregiver. It has been one of my life’s greatest joys! However, sometimes, I have put others first to the point where my own mental health has suffered and I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety and burn out. Maybe you have too? I am a single mom who helped care for my dad through his dementia, helped loved ones when their mental health struggles were too much, and through this have learned how to prioritize my own mental health and find balance. As someone who has spent many sessions in counselling myself, I am thrilled to have the opportunity with Grounded Psychology to share in your journey to mental wellness as well.
I see my role as cheerleader, guide, confidant and someone who can gently challenge you when the time is right as well. More than just a sounding board, together we can tease out patterns that no longer serve you, challenge your unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about yourself, and have reflective emotional experiences that bring you to another relationship with your stories. Therapeutic modalities I like and am trained in are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focussed Therapy and an eclectic approach I have gained through over 20 years as a Social Worker.
My career in Social Work from has been varied – from crisis lines to community clinics and hospital settings. I’ve worked with parents of teens, supported caregivers of seniors going through dementia and other mental health concerns, adults going through traumatic incidents and people in unhealthy relationships. I am a queer therapist and have spent lots of time working with youth adults and LGBTQIA+ families as well. I have my MSW from the University of Toronto and a BSW and BA from York University.
I look forward to meeting with you soon to see if we are a good match. Feel free to reach out!
